Eileen Brophy is joining Boston law firm Nutter after 23 years in the city's planning and development agency.

Brophy was also instrumental in the implementation of changes to the city's zoning code over the years. She served as interim general counsel for BPDA during the last year. Brophy told the Business Journal that her experience has 'run all the gamut' regarding development and related issues. She said that she has worked on a variety of large projects in the city, including title resolution, permitting, leasing, regulatory controls and tax incentives. Tuesday was her first day at the new job. Brophy received her law degree from the Massachusetts School of Law. She was also an undergraduate at Bridgewater State University. Before entering law school, she worked briefly in stock brokerage and banking. She said, "It was baptism through fire." It doesn't matter if it's an individual selling their home or a large development. This becomes personal and very interesting to deal with. It involves the community and people's interests. Scott revealed to the Business Journal Wednesday that Brophy was a client of the firm through years of its real estate work in Boston. He said that Eileen has a deep understanding of not only the zoning code, but also of all the policy considerations involved in (developments), so having someone like Eileen on the private side is very helpful. It's all about having a conversation with all constituent groups, and making sure you can meld all these issues in a way that is beneficial for everyone. He said that developers face challenges in transportation, infrastructure and shifting policies. According to Business Journal research, Nutter opened a New York branch last year. It has 137 attorneys.
