McCarthy Meets With Taiwan Leader as China Threatens ‘Actions' in Response
The Republican House Speaker McCarthy is the highest ranking American official to meet with a leader of Taiwan on U.S. soil since 1979, when the U.S. recognized the communist government in Beijing.

McCarthy's meeting with Tsai follows on from private meetings Tsai held with a small group of U.S. legislators last week. She met with Sens. Beijing will send a message to Congress members who will attend the event. Tsai’s trip to the United States for a week is technically unofficial and is called a “transit” rather than a official visit. Frederic J.
