In 1982, the US President at the time was considering a plan called “Star Wars” to deploy weapons in space as a defense against Soviet missiles. A recent report from American spy agencies warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin might deploy and use a space bomb, which could disable thousands of satellites. This could have significant implications for communication links, as well as satellites used for surveillance, weather tracking, broadcasting, and internet connectivity. While the claim of such a deployment may be intended to intimidate adversaries, experts believe that using a space bomb for actual warfare is unlikely due to the risks involved. It would not only harm the targeted countries but also the attacker itself. Furthermore, deploying a space bomb would violate significant treaties and escalate tensions in the nuclear age.
