Dementia Cases Could Be Prevented or Delayed by Addressing Key Risk Factors #

Over 55 million people worldwide currently have dementia, and this number is expected to almost triple by 2050. However, a new report suggests that addressing specific risk factors over the course of a person’s life could prevent or delay nearly half of dementia cases. The report, based on reviews of the latest evidence, adds high cholesterol and vision loss as new risk factors to the existing list of twelve. It calls for individuals and governments to have accessible and reliable information to address these risk factors and prioritize dementia prevention and treatment. While the report does not establish a direct causation between these risk factors and dementia, it provides insight into potential ways to reduce the risk of developing the disease.
