Success Space seeks to expand to Chicago with coworking site

As part of its national expansion plan, Success Space wants to open its first Illinois coworking space on Chicago's North Side or South Side.

The Texas-based office space operator is looking for 4,500 to 5,500 sq. ft. in Chicago's Gold Coast downtown, Edison Park and Mt. Kelli Schroeder is a vice-president at Success Space. She says that the Greenwood and Forest Glen areas are in demand.

Schroeder stated that the target area was a central location where people already live and run their errands.

She stated that no decision had been made on whether they would lease space or build their own space.

She said, "We are open to both options." It depends on what's available in the real estate market. We don't have a specific timeline.

Success Space's first location is set to open in Sugar Land, Texas next month. Schroeder stated that the company plans to open two additional Texas locations, and has 10 other locations in development across the country by the end the year.

Michiel Burnett who co-founded DBCOffices - a provider of co-working spaces - agreed that many coworking users live in the South suburbs.

Burnett explained that workers who live in south suburbs do not wish to travel to the downtown area or inner city to be able to work remotely. "That's the reason there is a demand for this."

DBCOffices is located in the south suburbs of Richton Park, and Olympia Fields. According to Burnett, during the pandemic customers lined up for blocks at the Olympia Fields location because the demand was so great.

Burnett said that many entrepreneurs and home-based business owners in the South suburbs need temporary office space, whether it is daily or monthly. Coworking spaces are convenient because they don't require a lease and provide networking opportunities.
